Then & Now.

When John J. Houston (known by friends and acquaintances as JJ) left St. Louis Missouri at the young age of 17 to "make his fortune" out west, no one in his family could have imagined where life would lead him. His youth had been plagued with mysterious illness and he hadn't spent much time outside. The fresh air of the Northern High Plains seemed to bring the miraculous healing JJ had been looking for. He started as a ranch hand and before long found himself buying and selling cattle.

Eventually he settled in what would become Deaf Smith County, Texas and his family has been ranching there ever since.

JENNY HOUSTON

who:

Six generations after JJ Houston established Texas Ranch, Jenny Houston took over the reigns. With a degree in Ag Business Management, Jenny chose to return home to Northern Texas to take over the role of CEO.

With Jenny's leadership, Texas Ranch now offers direct-to-consumer beef and is looking to expand into other product offerings.

Included in Jenny's plans for the ranch was the renovation of the Hired Man's Bunkhouse into a charming, relaxing vacation rental retreat from the world.

Our Operation

While their appearance is classically Texas, and the Longhorn produces wonderfully lean beef, favored in organic markets, the honor of best "beef"  goes to the Angus breed. Angus beef is known for it's fine marbling, tender and tasty meat. Since the 1880s Texas Ranch has operated a Blank Angus commercial herd. Naturally, we keep a couple of Texas Longhorns as an homage to our home state.

We do all of our own animal handling and processing. From their first day on the ranch to their last, we run a humane, natural, grass fed, grain finished operation.

If you'd like to buy beef directly from us, visit our online shop by clicking the SHOP OUR STORE link below.
